SLOW FIRST WEEK OF SUMMER SEASON

Not a lot to report from the North Coast District of Junior Baseball. Between state championships, weather and fire, local teams had their first week of games postponed.

Now Saturday's scheduled non-league game between Astoria Ford and Tigard has been cancelled at Tigard's request.

Astoria Ford, the Astoria High School summer squad, will play Estacada Sunday night at 6:00 p.m. in what will be their first action of the summer season. Estacada is here for a long weekend, playing Seaside today, later facing Warrenton in a 4:00 p.m. doubleheader on Monday.

The Astoria Ford team is comprised of the state championship squad minus graduated seniors Kevin Berry, Kye Johnson and Travis Wesely. JV players Mason Brause, Brad Sarpola, Hans Lund and Oscar Carriere joined the team for the playoffs and will be on the summer roster.

Astoria postponed its scheduled opener against Knappa on Tuesday in order to organize and decompress following last Saturday's state championship victory over Sherwood. Thursday's game at Warrenton was postponed due to a controlled burn on an adjoining field and the resulting shutoff of water at Huddleston Field. Knappa's scheduled home game vs. Rainier was postponed due to rain on Thursday.
