Seaside 41, Taft 37...Seaside senior post Matt Peinhardt scored 18 points and pulled down 15 rebounds to lead the Seagulls to a victory in their season opener at Lincoln City. Ed Kauffunger added six points for Seaside, which heads to Tenino, WA Monday night.
Life Christian 68, Jewell 31...The Blue Jays lost their season opener at Hillsboro. Travis Kaczenski had a team-high 14 points for Jewell, which hosts Neah-Kah-Nie Saturday night.
GIRLS BASKETBALL
Jewell 68, Life Christian 30...Frances Dugan scored 26 points and added 10 steals, nine rebounds and five assists to lead the Blue Jays at Hillsboro.
WRESTLING
R.A. Long 63, Astoria 16...Astoria kept it all in the family as the brothers Banta recorded all of the scoring for the Fishermen in a non-league dual meet loss in Longview. Senior Jake, wrestling at heavyweight until he sheds some football pounds, pinned Drew Brock in the second period. Twin brother Josh went the distance to record a major decision against Skyler Ackerly and sophomore Cole took just 1:37 to pin Mike Delmar in the 171-pound match. Astoria and Seaside head to Gladstone tonight for a 3-way non-league meet with the Gladiators.

BOYS: Rainier 93, Seaside 39...
GIRLS: Seaside 98, Rainier 65...Seaside competed against Rainier and La Salle in a non-league double-dual meet at Briarcliff Pool in Rainier Thursday. Individual results and La Salle dual scores were not reported. The Gulls swim at Astoria's Andrew Nygaard Invitational Saturday at 9:00 a.m.
