WEDNESDAY BASKETBALL WRAPUP

BOYS BASKETBALL
Knappa 50, Portland Lutheran 49...Paul Isom scored inside shortly after a go-ahead 3-pointer by the Jays to give Knappa a 50-49 victory over Portland Lutheran. The Loggers were led by Gary Aho's 13 points, while Isom's twin brother Ryan added 11. Knappa travels to Gaston Friday. The Greyhounds lost big to De La Salle 85-41 Wednesday night. In other N.W. League action, Elijah Monnes had a triple-double and Jesse Severson had 18 points as Portland Christian crunched Corbett 79-34 and Nestucca defeated Faith Bible 58-40.
North Beach 72, Naselle 50...Kyle Burkhalter scored 29 points, but the struggling Comets fell hard at Oyehut. "We haven't played well since Christmas," said Comets head coach Brian Macy. "We are struggling in every facet." The Comets will try and snap out of it tonight at home against the Willapa Valley Vikings. Ryan Cariker led four Hyaks in double figures with 17 points.
Willamette Valley Christian 62, Jewell 38...Will Steinweg scored 20 points and hauled down 17 rebounds for the Jays.

GIRLS BASKETBALL
Knappa 35, Portland Lutheran 31...The Loggers grabbed an early lead and held it, holding the Blue Jays' high-scoring senior Cheryl Burris relatively in check in a win at Portland Lutheran. Burris finished with a game-high 14, while Rachele Schuyler led Knappa with 13 points. Elsewhere in the N.W. League, Portland Christian defeated Corbett 49-20, Nestucca topped Faith Bible 72-18 and De La Salle defeated Gaston 36-17.
Jewell 56, Willamette Valley Christian 15...Another suffocating defensive performance by the Blue Jays, who improved to 8-1 overall with the victory. Frances Dugan led Jewell with 22 points, while Sonia Borders added 11. Jewell travels to Fall City on Friday.
