COMETTES BEAT RIVALS ON THE ROAD

Never an easy place for opponents, the Comets walked out of Willapa Valley's Tenoski Gymnasium with a 50-46 victory Wednesday night, improving to 2-1 in Pacific 2B League play and 5-4 overall.

Erin Saari scored a season-best 22 points and added 11 rebounds and four steals for the Comettes, who were buoyed by the return of Brandi Keightley from injury.

"It takes pressure off Erin," said head coach Bob Torppa. "Brandi played very good."

"She's a little bit out of shape, but to come back with one practice and get 12 points was a very good job by her."

The Comettes got strong play in the post from Cheryl Steppe (7 points, 13 rebounds) and Ashley Ahlstrom (6 points, 15 rebounds) and overcame Valley's tough defensive pressure, led by guard Chelsi Friese, who had 13 steals in the game.

Naselle hosts South Bend on Friday. The Indians lost 34-8 to Tacoma Baptist Wednesday night, playing without leading scorer Crystal Smith. In other Pacific 2B League girls action, Raymond defeated Ocosta 57-21 and North Beach beat N.W. Christian 64-50.
