WHEALDON IN PNGA REGIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP

Ilwaco sophomore Jack Whealdon shot 1-over par 145 over 36 qualifying holes to reach the championship flight at the PNGA Junior Boys Amateur Championship at Burley Municipal Course in Burley, Idaho.

Whealdon shot even par 72 on Monday and +1 Tuesday to finish stroke play in a tie for 23rd. The top 32 golfers from over 100 of the Northwest's top junior golfers move on to bracketed match play on Wednesday. Whealdon, who finished 11 strokes behind the leader Will Holdridge of Blaine, Washington, will tee off early Wednesday morning against Jacob Webb of Issaquah. Webb placed eighth during stroke play, eight strokes ahead of Whealdon. The winner of the morning pairing will move on to the second round later in the day. The tournament culminates with a championship match on Friday.

Whealdon's younger brother Patrick fired a 79 on Tuesday after playing par golf on the front nine. Patrick Whealdon will face off against Chris Babcock in the sixth of eight flights, teeing off at 11:50 a.m.
