DOUBLE WINNERS FOR ILWACO AT HOME MEET
Steven Berglund and Carl Jackson finished one and two in the boys race and Kelly Freese won her fifth race in six tries at Ilwaco's invitational cross country meet on Thursday.
La Center's boys and girls were the team champions, with the Wildcats boys scoring 43 points and their girls fielding the only complete team in the seven-school field.
Berglund finished the 5K course in 18:46, followed by Jackson 21 seconds behind. La Center's Devon Dykes placed third in 19:16, followed by Jordan Hutson of Rochester (19:18) and Kaj Holten of Castle Rock (19:32).
Ilwaco and Rochester finished tied for second place with 64 points. Other Ilwaco finishers included Evin LaPlatney (15th, 20:13), Robert Gibbons (20th, 21:02), Luke Jensen (27th, 21:43), Robert O'Brien (39th, 23:40) and Adam Taylor (45th, 26:44).
Freese finished 34 seconds ahead of La Center's Jami Beed, crossing the line in 21:43. Freshman Cameo Ulbricht placed seventh (24:23), with Stephanie Ryan coming in 28th (37:27).
Ilwaco heads to Stan Hedwall Park in Chehalis Saturday for the Bearcat Activators Invitational.
