VOLLEYBALL ROUNDUP-Thursday

Astoria def. Scappoose 25-14, 25-9, 25-16...Astoria got strong play from its left side backs and double digit kills from juniors Kristin Saulsbury (11) and Sophie DeWitt (10). Rachel Gascoigne set 26 assists and Hilary O'Bryan served five of Astoria's 15 aces in the match. The Lady Fishermen, now 7-0 in Cowapa League and 8-0 overall, have their toughest test of the season Tuesday night at Tillamook.
Ilwaco def. Kalama 25-25, 25-18, 25-20...Ilwaco overcame a spate of recent slow starts, leading Kalama until the 18-point mark of game one before falling to the Chinooks in three competitive games. The Lady Fishermen (1-3 Trico League, 1-5 overall) compete at a tournament in Raymond on Saturday.
Warrenton def. Catlin Gabel 25-10, 25-8, 25-15...The Warriors breezed to their second straight Lewis & Clark League win at Catlin Gabel. Ashley Poole and Jordane Marxer combined to hit 14-for-15 with four kills and Justine Marxer was 25-for-26 at the service line. The Warriors host defending 2A state champion O.E.S. on Tuesday. The Aardvarks blitzed a tough Neah-Kah-Nie team Thursday night, winning 25-14, 25-17, 25-13. In other L&C League action...Rainier and Clatskanie played a marathon third game before the Columbians swept the Tigers 25-20, 25-21, 33-31 and Portland Adventist picked up its second straight league win with a 26-24, 19-25, 25-16, 26-24 win at Vernonia.
Nestucca def. Knappa 25-11, 25-9, 25-17...The Loggers dropped to 1-5 in the Northwest League.
South Bend def. Naselle 25-23, 26-24, 18-25, 21-25, 15-10...In a clash of longtime Pacific League rival powers, the Indians outlasted the Comets, handing Naselle (5-1) its first loss of the season, despite 24 kills from Sylvia Herrold and strong hitting and defense from Jenny Klinger. The good news for Naselle: it was a non-league game and the Comets host South Bend later this season when it counts. Naselle plays its final non-league game at Ocosta Tuesday before opening Pacific 2B League play at Raymond next Thursday.
Jewell def. C.S. Lewis 25-4, 25-11, 25-18...The Blue Jays continue to mow down 1A competition. Jewell's only loss of the season came last Friday to Astoria's J.V. team. Jewell travels to Willamette Valley Christian on Tuesday after participating in Seaside's J.V. Tournament this Saturday.
Tillamook def. Seaside 25-12, 25-14, 25-15...The Gulls got some bad news before the match, when Becca Weaver's knee injury, suffered Tuesday night against Astoria, was diagnosed as a torn ACL, ending her season. Megan Potter will share middle duty with Meagan Macomb, Seaside's only returning letterwinner, for the balance of the season. The Seagulls were no match for Tillamook in a 3-game sweep...In other Cowapa League action, Banks (5-2 Cowapa League and overall) defeated Yamhill-Carlton 25-22, 25-20, 25-15 to keep pace with Tillamook in second place, two games behind Astoria.
