GULL GIRLS CRUISE, BOYS LOSE AT TENINO
You won't see her name in the police blotter, but Seaside's Marla Olstedt is a master thief.
One year after setting a school record for steals in a season, the Seagull junior is on a pace to shatter her high mark for pilferage.
Olstedt recorded nine steals in a game for the second time this season and flirted with a quadruple-double as the Seagulls pounded the Tenino Beavers 78-18 at Tenino Monday night.
The Beavers may have picked the wrong time to play Seaside, as the Gulls were coming off a humiliating 87-38 blowout loss at Gladstone on Saturday and took out their frustrations on a hapless opponent.
Olstedt led Seaside in nearly every statistical category, scoring 20 of her game-high 28 points in the first half as Seaside built a 46-10 lead. The athletic off-guard added eight rebounds and six assists. Backcourt mate Ashley Mayfield had five steals and five assists to go with four points and Lynzee Johnson contributed 13 points and four steals. The Gulls forced 39 Tenino turnovers and shot 46 percent from the field after a dismal 23 percent showing at Gladstone.
The Seagulls boys fell to Tenino 61-42 in a physical game that featured 42 fouls and over 50 free throws. The Beavers' Sean Goldsmith led all scorers with 22 points.
Seaside, playing most of the game without leading returning scorer Ed Kauffunger, who was under the weather, went just 10-for-22 at the foul line, while Tenino converted 23-of-32 at the charity stripe.
Damian Olivar led the Gulls with 15 points and Matt Peinhardt recorded his second straight double-double with 11 points and ten rebounds.
Seaside hosts Naselle Thursday night, while the Seagull girls head to Naselle on Friday.
