BABE RUTH 14'S AND 15'S WIN AT RHOADS
The Astoria 14-year-old Babe Ruth All-Stars picked up their second straight lopsided victory, while the 15-year-olds improved to 2-1 in pool play at the Don Rhoads Memorial Tournament.
The 14-year-olds defeated Centralia 15-4, their second straight 5-inning mercy rule victory. Skylar Olson allowed three runs over three innings pitched to earn the win. John Fick pitched his second scoreless relief inning of the tournament and Tyler Norfleet closed out the game, allowing a single run in the fifth.
Astoria plays two pool games today, and pending the outcome, potentially another single elimination game tonight. Up first is Kelso, also 2-0 in pool play, at 9:30 a.m. this morning at Mark Morris H.S. Later on, Astoria heads to Roy Morse Park for its final pool play game against Hazel Dell. A win over Kelso would put Astoria in a position to win its pool, giving them a bye until Sunday, otherwise, bracket play begins at 6:00 p.m tonight at Roy Morse with the top three teams from each 5-team pool advancing.
The Astoria 15-year-olds recorded their second consecutive shutout win, blanking Olympia-Tumwater. Winning pitcher Cody Strickland tossed the first four innings and Zach Dursse preserved the shutout over the final three. Astoria faces Port Angeles today at noon at Mark Morris and will likely play an elimination game tonight at 6:00 p.m. at Kelso.
