COKLEYS COMBINE FOR 97 PTS, DANGER DEN 3-0
Mike Cokley won the battle of the Cokleys, Danger Den won the battle of the unbeatens.
The former Oregon State guard scored 50 points for Nygaard/Hunt, but younger brother Tex and Danger Den came away with a 93-83 victory to improve to 3-0 in the Knappa Summer Basketball League.
Tex Cokley nailed 10 of the first 11 three pointers he attempted, finishing with 47 points for the defending Knappa Summer League champions. Nate McBride and Tim Lambert helped finished off Nygaard/Hunt by combining for five straight three-pointers down the stretch to seal the win. McBride finished with 21 points and Lambert chipped in 13 for Danger Den, which took over sole possession of first place in the league standings.
Mike Cokley's former Knappa and OSU teammate Brian Jackson's tip-in at the buzzer to lifted The Logger to a thrilling 81-80 victory over Teevin Bros. Down by one point with five seconds remaining, Salmi stole an inbounds pass and drove to the basket. His miss was tipped in by Jackson at the horn, the last two of his game-high 49 points. Salmi added 17 for The Logger, which improved to 2-1 with the victory. Brian's cousin Kyle led Teevin with 36 points and Nick Alfonse added 22.
In the final game of the night, Ed's Septic steadily pulled away from Link's Outdoor for a 91-67 victory. Andrew Nieman led the way with 36 points including a highlight-reel dunk in traffic. Paul Jarrett paced Link's with 20 points and Josh Ray and Ryan Wells added 10 each. Matt Richert actually showed up Thursday, contributing four points, four rebounds and one block off the bench and did not allow Nieman to dunk in his face. Thanks, Andy! The over-the-hill Richert exhibited guts and guile while playing through a painful calf injury suffered during a rare stretching routine.
