JACKSON MVP, BUT COKLEYS GO FOR GOLD

Mike Cokley led six players in double figures with 30 points as the Gold Team defeated the Blue Team 115-110 in the All-Star game finale of the Knappa Summer Basketball League Tuesday night at Knappa High School.

Younger brother Tex Cokley hit 7-of-20 3-pointers to finish with 25 points and Jeff Harell (17 points, 13 rebounds), Paul Jarrett (15-12) and Nate McBride (14-11) all finished with double-doubles.

Brian Jackson, voted Most Valuable Player by league opponents, finished with a game-high 42 oints and 15 rebounds for the Blue squad.

The Blues pulled out to early advantages in the first and second half, but quickly ran out of steam, playing without any subs. The Gold came back from a 13-point second half deficit and took the lead just before the 10-minute mark on a Tex Cokley 3-ball. The teams traded the lead several times down the stretch before the Gold team sealed the game at the free throw line in the final few minutes.

Andrew Nieman added 29 points and nine assist for the Blues. Kyle Jackson checked in with 18 with Nick Alfonse scoring 11 points and Andy Murray 10.

The top 12 players were selected to play in the All-Star game by a vote of the rest of the players in the league. The teams were constructed by League Director Craig Cokley for competitive value. Two elected players did not play, with Tim Harrell out due to injury for the Gold, replaced by Jayme Toyas, who tallied 14 points. Josh Ray did not play for the Blue Team, leaving them without a substitute player for the 40-minute contest.
