FISHERMEN GIRLS EARN FIRST WIN

Playing their second straight game against a much larger school, the Astoria Lady Fishermen girls soccer team came away with its first victory of the season, knocking off the R.A. Long Lumberjills 2-1 in Longview.

Charlene Harber got the Fish on the board with a goal at the ten minute mark and Astoria held a 1-0 advantage at the half. The Jills tied the game with a goal in the 53rd minute before Hannah Alley broke the tie with a score in the 60th minute of play.

Head coach Jim Flint praised the play of his defense in a game that featured numerous shots on goal for both teams.

Astoria, now 1-2, opens district play on Thursday at Rainier.
