WEEKEND ROUNDUP

GIRLS SOCCER
Battle Ground 3, ASTORIA 0...The Washington 4A Tigers (equivalent of Oregon 6A) defeated the Lady Fishermen in their home opener Friday night. Battle Ground outshot Astoria 8-to-3, scoring a single goal in the first half and two more in the second. Battle Ground had three corner kicks to Astoria's two. "It was an opportunity to learn, playing a real strong side," said head coach Jim Flint of the 2300-plus enrollment Tigers. The Lady Fishermen head to R.A. Long to play the Lumberjills tonight.

BOYS SOCCER
Gladstone 2, Seaside 1...The Seagulls dropped their second straight match to fall to 2-2 on the season. No details were reported.

VOLLEYBALL
Neah-Kah-Nie Tournament...The Gervais Cougars won their second straight tournament, defeating Corbett in the championship game at Rockaway. Neah-Kah-Nie defeated Warrenton in the consolation finals. The Warriors finished second in their 4-team pool before losing to Gervais in the semifinals after leading the Cougars 22-18 in both games. No scores or statistics were reported.
