FISHERMEN WIN AT WILSONVILLE, NOW 3-0
K.J. Speer's penalty kick in the 78th minute broke a 1-all draw as the Astoria Fishermen defeated the Wilsonville Wildcats 2-1 in non-league boys soccer at Wilsonville Thursday night.
The Wildcats took the lead after a scoreless first half, scoring off a misplayed throw-in just two minutes into the second half.
Astoria would not trail for long as Seaside transfer Ryan Putnam crossed the ball from the left wing to a waiting Kyle McMullen, who one-timed it into the back of the net for the equalizing goal just two minutes later.
Astoria outshot Wilsonville 10-9 and the teams each had two corner kicks in a tightly contested, physical match.
Astoria returns to Cowapa League play at Tillamook on Tuesday. The Cheesemakers got the first boys soccer win in school history yesterday with a 4-3 victory at winless Scappoose.
