BOYS BASKETBALL
Knappa 82, Nestucca 52...Ryan Isom led five Loggers in double figures with 17 points as Knappa routed Nestucca at Cloverdale. Steven Bokor spearheaded a fierce Logger press and finished with a season-high 12 points. The Loggers forced 27 Bobcat turnovers, improving to 10-2 in the Northwest League heading into a pair of tough games at Portland Christian Tuesday and home against De La Salle on Friday. Portland Christian (12-0 N.W. League, 20-2 overall) defeated De La Salle (8-4, 14-8) 62-52 Friday night to all but lock up the league championship and a state tournament berth. The league runner-up will host the third place team in a Tuesday, Feb. 13 playoff game. Knappa (14-8) can clinch a second place finish with one win in its final two games.
Stevenson 77, Ilwaco 65...The Bulldogs sprinted to a 27-17 first quarter lead on the way to a win at Aase Gymnasium Friday night. The Bulldogs led by 27 points in the fourth quarter before Ilwaco went on a 15-0 run to close the game. Jereth Robinson led five Stevenson players in double figures with 15 points. Anthony Wirkkala tallied 20 points for Ilwaco. Matt Kaino left the game in the first half with a sprained ankle after scoring 11 points.
Falls City 38, Jewell 36...In the Jays closest game of the season, WIll Steinweg led Jewell with a 23 point, 12 rebound performace and added six steals.
GIRLS BASKETBALL
Nestucca 61, Knappa 34...The Loggers and Bobcats are now tied for second place in the N.W. League at 10-2 heading into the final week of the season. Nestucca (15-6 overall) plays at De La Salle (8-4, 12-10) and hosts Corbett (5-7, 6-15), while Knappa (16-6) plays at league-leading Portland Christian (11-1, 17-4) and hosts fourth place De La Salle.
Jewell 60, Falls City 24...Frances Dugan had 14 points, eight assists and six steals to lead the Jays to another easy win.
