ASTORIA FORD ROLLS TO JUNIOR QUARTERS
The Astoria Ford Fishermen had no trouble with their opening round opponent, routing Sprague High School 10-0 in five innings in the opening round of the Oregon Junior Baseball Association State Tournament at Pleasant Hill High School Thursday.
Jordan Poyer took a no-hitter into the fifth inning before yielding a leadoff base hit, the only hit of the day for the number four team from the Salem District. Poyer also helped his own cause with a 3-run home run in a 5-run Astoria second inning.
The defending OJBA Division I state champion Fishermen scored all of their runs in the first three innings. Hans Lund added a pair of hits and two RBI's for Astoria, which will face either Pleasant Hill or North Marion at Pleasant Hill High School Friday night at 6:30 in the quarterfinals.
