CAL RIPKEN TOURNAMENT WRAP
All four Lower Columbia Cal Ripken All-star teams competed at invitational tournaments this weekend.
The 10-year-old All-Stars played Castle Rock/Toutle Lake to an 8-8 tie in their opening game at Central Longview's Archie Anderson Park on Friday and lost a close contest to the Puyallup Tarheels 4-3 on Saturday. Facing a tough bracket matchup Saturday night, Lower Columbia was eliminated by Western Longview in a 16-2 loss.
Next up for the 10-year-old team is the state tournament at West Linn's Oppenlander Fields. Lower Columbia will open pool play Friday morning , July 6 at 9:00 a.m. against Sandy.
The 11-year-old team will have its state tournament this weekend a little closer to home in Naselle. LC went 1-2 in pool play this weekend before falling to Black Hills 10-0 Saturday night at a tournament in Longview. Lower Columbia opened pool play with a 16-0 loss to the host team on Friday, rebounding to defeat Cowlitz 13-6 Saturday morning before closing pool play with a 10-5 loss to Hoquiam Saturday evening.
The combined 11/12B North Oregon State Tournament will be held Friday and Saturday at Naselle. The 11's open against the Dallas 12B team at noon Friday before facing West Linn 11's later in the day. The Lower Columbia 12B team takes on West Linn 12B at noon Friday before facing Seaside at 3:00 p.m. The top 12B team will play in the 12A state tournament the following weekend.
