BEAVERS GO OFF IN SUMMER LEAGUE

A pair of Knappa natives and former OSU Beavers led the way for their respective teams on the second day of the Knappa Summer League basketball season.

Brian Jackson scored 39 points, Astoria's Josh Ray added 16 and Brent Brockey had a double-double with 11 points and 12 rebounds as Teevin Brothers defeated Danger Den 83-76. Danger Den, paced by Tex Cokley's 30 points, dropped to 0-2 while Teevin improved to 2-0.

Jackson's former Knappa and OSU teammate Mike Cokley had 37 points and 10 rebounds to lead The Logger to a 73-54 victory over Western Underground. Western Underground, playing without 6-8 post Paul Jarrett, was led by Josh Miller's 13 points.

In the first game of the night, Ed's Septic dominated from start to finish in a 90-58 victory over Nygaard/Hunt. Kyle Jackson had 28 points and 12 rebounds and Kevin Maki added 27 points as Ed's Septic improved to 2-0. Former Astoria standout Matt Johnson had 23 points for Nygaard/Hunt, which dropped to 0-2.

Nygaard/Hunt hopes to get a boost Thursdaay from the return of Mike Oien, who is currently in Alaska, when they go for their first win against Danger Den. In other games Thursday, Teevin Bros. takes on the The Logger in a battle of ex-Beavers and Western Underground faces Ed's Septic.

Knappa Summer League will be off the following week for gym renovations, then returns Monday, July 31st. Games are Monday, Tuesday and Thursday nights at Knappa High School starting at 6:00 p.m.
