SEASIDE 12's 1-3 AT STATE TOURNEY

Sandy brought an abrupt end to Seaside's stay at the North Oregon Cal Ripken 12-and-under State Tournament with a 17-1 quarterfinal victory on Saturday night.

Seaside appeared spent after an emotional loss earlier in the morning to the West Linn 12 B team. In that game, Seaside trailed 7-0 before scoring seven runs in the fourth inning to tie the game, the rally capped by a grand slam home run by Nick Nelson

Unfortunately, West Linn got a clutch hit in the sixth inning with a runner on third to win the game 8-7.

Charles Hawes went 3-for-3 with a double in the game and Ben DeGandi was 3-for-4 with a double, while Jason Pfund went 2-for-3

Seaside's only win of the tournament came Friday night in a 6-4 victory over Newberg. The South County all-stars took a 6-1 lead into the final inning then held on as Newberg rallied for three runs and put the tying runs at first and third before Eddie Soller recorded the final out on a grounder back to the mound.

Nick Nelson got the start and the win, allowing just one run in four innings and adding a double and a single at the plate. Charles Hawes had two hits including a double and Soller tripled, while Aaron Chesnutt scored a pair of runs.

Lower Columbia no-hit Seaside in a 5-inning, 11-0 victory in the tournament opener for both teams.

Seaside was held to just two hits in the loss to Sandy to close the tourney.
