GULLS SWEEP LOGGERS AT KNAPPA

The Seaside Seagulls wrapped up their OJBA North Coast District schedule with a pair of wins at Knappa, defeating the Loggers 10-1 and 6-2.

Seaside will host Scappoose today for a 4:00 p.m. doubleheader at Broadway Field before beginning the district tournament back at Knappa with a Friday night game against Warrenton.

Alec Carlson tossed a 3-hit complete game for the win in game one. The only Knappa run came on a Joe Strickland solo home run. Ben Christianson also homered for the Gulls as Cody Strickland took the loss on the mound with Joe Strickland finishing.

The Loggers will not participate in the district tournament because they will not be able to field enough players. A team reliant on a lot of younger players, Knappa will be shorthanded with several players, including both Strickland boys, playing for their respective Babe Ruth All-Star teams at this weekend's state tournaments.

Seaside picked up the doubleheader sweep, taking a 3-2 lead into the seventh inning before rallying for three runs. Brian Anderson ran into trouble on the mound early for Knappa and took the loss. A positive note for the Loggers was the strong pitching of Gary Aho in relief. The junior lefty, who will be the ace of Knappa's staff in the spring, had struggled most of the summer.

Friday's Seaside-Warrenton game will be at 5:00 p.m. at Knappa's Teevin Field, the site of all of the District 9 Tournament games. The winner will play Astoria Saturday at 2:00 p.m. with the losers meeting at 5:00 p.m. Saturday. Championship games will be 2:00 p.m. Sunday and 5:00 p.m. if necessary. The top two teams advance to the Oregon Junior Baseball Association Division I State Tournament in Eugene the following Thursday.
