FISHERMEN DISTRICT CHAMPS

The Astoria Ford Fishermen defeated Warrenton 7-5 Sunday for the OJBA District 9 Championship.

Both teams qualified for the state tournament with wins on Saturday. Astoria will take the top seed from the district and face a lower seeded team at Marist High School in Eugene on Thursday. Warrenton will face a district champion at Pleasant Hill High School in the opening round of the double elimination tournament.

Brendan Landwehr was Astoria's top hitter this weekend, jacking his third home run of the tournament in the second inning. Landwehr later added an RBI and a sacrifice fly. Matt Brause had a pair of hits and an RBI for the Fishermen.

Warrenton's Bubba Massey tied the game with a 2-run home run off starting pitcher Jordan Poyer in the fifth inning. The Fishermen regained the lead in the bottom of the inning.

Hans Lund pitched the sixth and Matt Brause came on to close the door in the seventh inning to record a save.

Mike Davis pitched a complete game in the loss for the Warriors. Massey finished with four runs batted in.
