FOOTBALL FLASH-Friday, Oct. 20

Make it eight straight wins for the Fishermen as Astoria laid waste to Scappoose's eight-year winning streak in this series with a 34-21 victory at Scappoose on homecoming night. Astoria's sophomore quarterback Jordan Poyer threw for 225 yards and three touchdowns and rushed for 114 yards and another score. With the win, Astoria clinched a state playoff berth as Seaside lost at Yamhill-Carlton 41-14. The Fishermen and Tigers square off next Friday at John Warren Field, giving Astoria an opportunity to clinch the league title on their home field. The Gulls were knocked out of playoff contention with tonight's loss.

Warrenton put 20 points on the board at Neah-Kah-Nie before they ran their third offensive play, scoring on an opening kick return by Brandon Garcia, a 64 yard Eric Gantenbein touchdown pass to Dallas Moses and a 60-yard interception return by Dan Wolfe. The Warriors went on to blank the Pirates 39-0, improving to 5-2 on the season.

Ilwaco and Knappa were simply outclassed Friday night. The Fishermen lost to Trico League-leading Kalama 49-0, while top-ranked Portland Christian blanked the Loggers 44-0 at Knappa.

Don't look now, but Naselle is 5-3 with a 3-game winning streak. The Comets defeated North Beach 40-26 and can push for a playoff spot with a game against South Bend next Friday.

Jewell had its closest call of the season, but remains winless following a 38-30 loss at Oregon School for the Deaf.

More details on these games will be posted later this weekend on the Last Dam Blog.
