TUESDAY PREP ROUNDUP

SOFTBALL
Yamhill-Carlton 4, Astoria 2 (8 innings)...Alex Hillard tied the game with a 2-out, 2-run single in the bottom of the seventh inning, but the Fishermen were unable to push across the game-winner as the Tigers threw out one runner at the plate on a ground-out and picked Hillard off third base to end the inning. In the top of the 8th, Ashley Braden drove in two runs with a double and the Tigers escaped with an extra-inning victory in the Cowapa League opener for both teams. Hillard struck out ten and walked one, allowing six hits in the loss. Emily Burrell had two hits and a run scored for Astoria.
Vernonia 18, Warrenton 1 (5 innings)...Joreigh Landers tossed a 5-inning one-hitter with 11 strikeouts and no walks, while Brittany Lindauer had a huge day at the plate, going 4-for-4 with two triples, a double and six runs batted in. Landers added a home run for the Loggers. Audrey Dove crossed the plate with Warrenton's only run on a sacrifice bunt by Chelseay Neahring. Brandi Jasmin had Warrenton's only hit.
Knappa 21-12, Portland Adventist 4-2 (both games 5 innings)...Chelsea Cameron went 7-for-7 with four doubles and four runs batted in as the Loggers swept the Cougars in a non-league doubleheader in Portland. Kate Shear caught all ten innings of the doubleheader and had a pair of hits in each game. Danielle Donyari picked up the win in game one and Cameron was the winning pitcher in game two. The Loggers (7-6) are tentatively scheduled to travel to Ilwaco on Tuesday at 4:30 p.m.

BOYS GOLF
Madras Invitational at Eagle Crest...Led by Devan Flukinger's fifth place 84, the Seaside Seagulls placed fourth out of six teams, finishing tied with Tillamook with a team score of 377. McKenzie, a 1A school, won the event with a team score of 331. Casey King and Sisters' Michael Reeves shared medalist honors, both shooting 76. Scores inflated on a windy back nine and no other golfers broke 80 on the day. For Seaside, Chris Olson shot 95, Evan Jiroudek 98, Peter Scruggs shaved ten strokes on the back nine to shoot an even 100 and Donnie Strite finished at 108. Chris Merritt paced Tillamook with an 89. The Gulls compete in the Central Coast Invitational at Sandpines Thursday and Salishan Friday.
