WARRENTON/KNAPPA TRACK

The "Jordans" ruled at Warrenton on Thursday.

Actually that's Jordyn and Jordane if you're keeping score at home.

The Warrenton boys and girls each took first place at a 6-way home meet yesterday as freshman Jordyn Holt and sophomore Jordane Marxer tallied a total of five first places for the Lady Warriors and Dallas Moses notched two first and a second place for the Warrior boys.

Freshman phenom Jordyn Holt scored a quartet of first places, including a triple jump mark of 34 feet, one inch, which puts her among the state's 3A elite. Holt also ran to first place in the 100 meters and 110 hurdles and won the long jump. Marxer, who did not compete in track as a frosh, won the 400 meters in 1:06.91, while finishing second to Holt in the long and triple jumps.

"She's a pure athlete," said Warrenton head track coach Josh Jannusch of Holt, who will move with her family to Long Island, NY after the scholastic year. "She goes out and is able to do a lot of events with ease. If she can put together some fine-tuning of her skills, she'd be even more special, but in terms of athletic ability, she's pretty special.

From the rookie girls to the veteran boys, senior state track veteran Dallas Moses led the boys to a first place total of 152 points, winning the 800 meters (2:05.09) and triple jump (40-5) and finishing a close second to Knappa's Steven Bokor in a heavyweight 110 hurdle matchup.

"He's also one of those athletes you can put into just about any event," said Jannusch.

Warrenton's Ball brothers also added a pair of first places with junior Matt winning the long jump (18-0) and taking second in the high jump (5-6) and sophomore Sean taking first place in the 200 meters (24.49) and third in the triple jump. Randy Solansky threw the discus 104-6 for a first place and took second in the javelin to Jewell's Will Crook, who won easily with a throw of 153-5.

The Warriors narrowly got past Knappa, outscoring the Loggers 152-110 on the boys side and 100-92 in the girls meet. Steven Bokor was man of the meet for the Loggers with three firsts, edging Moses with a 16.10 in the high hurdles and taking first in the intermediate hurdles (43.28) and 100 meters (11.68).

"Bokor got a strong challenge from Moses in the high hurdles," said Knappa head coach Kenboi Chesimet. "It was a good debut for him in this event. Come Monday, he'll be running against the big boy from Seaside."

The "big boy" would be Seaside senior Dennis Olstedt, one of the state's top hurdlers, whose Gulls host most of the area schools in the annual Daily Astorian Invitational on Monday.

The Loggers swept the top three spots in the boys 3000, led by Josh Fry's 10:44.99.

"He's been sick, so I kept him on a short leash," said Chesimet. "Fry tried to run with Moses, but paid the price in the 800 meters."

Kevin Martens and Steve Allen took second and third respectively in the 3000.

The Knappa girls got a pair of first places from Rachele Schuyler in the javelin and shot put with Christina Kaul second in the javelin. And Gretchen George stretched out to win the 1500 meters in 5:29.69, taking second in the 400 and ran on fumes in the 200 meters to finish third.

Coach Jannusch sees good potential for both boys and girls teams to score at the state meet.

"I think Jordane Marxer could get to state in a couple of events. She's new this year and we're still trying to piece together whoat her best events are. Janessa Gramson will have a chance in the distance races."

"The boys have a few strong contenders. Obviously, Dallas Moses will be a favorite in teh 800 and triple jump and I'm not sure what other events."

"The 4-by-4 relay team (Moses-S. Ball-Michael O'Casey-Kevin Dugan) returns intact.

O'Casey, a senior, will contend in the 800 and 1500 meters and is adding the discus throw to his repertoire.

"He's just a horse and he's been throwing it well in practice," said Jannusch. "We have quite a few athletes on the boys side that will be able to possibly fight for a state berth."

Saturday, Warrenton runs at the Tillamook Invitational, while Knappa hosts a meet with Nestucca and Portland Christian.
