ASTORIA FORD JUNIORS OPEN TOURNEY WITH WIN

Zach Dursse tossed six strong innings and hit a 3-run double as the Astoria Ford Fishermen defeated Milwaukie 7-2 in an Oregon Junior Baseball game at Aiken Field Monday afternoon.

In the first game of what will be an abbreviated Firecracker Tournament, Astoria scored six unearned runs in the third inning, capped by Dursse's drive to the right center field wall.

The tournament, which was to have featured three games Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, has been adjusted due to the non-appearance of Franklin's Malarkey Roofing, the same team that stood up the Renegades a week previous. There will be no 4:00 p.m. game today and Milwaukie and McNary will meet in a 7:00 p.m. game tonight.

Tuesday will open with another game between the Astoria and Milwaukie junior teams, followed by an American Legion doubleheader with Astoria playing Milwaukie at 4:00 p.m. and McNary at 7:00 p.m. The Astoria and McNary Legion teams will play again at 4:00 p.m. on July 4.

Dursse, who three three scoreless innings Friday for the Astoria 15-year-old Babe Ruth All-Stars, retired the first 11 batters he faced before loading the bases on two walks and an Eric Entrikin single in the fourth inning. Lefthanded leftfielder James Guerra followed with a foul pop to the third base side that Marcus Brown caught up against the fence beyond the Astoria dugout for the third out of the inning.

In the previous frame, Astoria's Max Johnson singled with one out and stole second base, but was retired at third trying to advance on Ian Erickson's ground ball. Dane Lund followed with a fly ball to right field that was misplayed for an error, opening the floodgates. The next two batters were hit by pitches, with Brown's plunk forcing in Erickson with the first run of the game. Then Sam Johnson and Brad Sarpola drew consecutive bases loaded walks before Dursse's bases clearing double off soft-tossing reliever Joey Carreira.

Carreira would leave the game with an injury in the fourth inning, after fouling a Dursse pitch off his own face.

Milwaukie finally got to the Astoria sophomore with a run in the sixth on three base hits. Willie Einerson walked two in the final inning before Entikin picked up his third hit of the game, a single to score A.J. Dickson.

Troy Sarpola's sacrifice fly to left field scored Marc Gallegos in the sixth inning with the final Astoria run.

Erickson went 2-for-3 at the plate for Astoria Ford, which remains unbeaten this summer.
