ASTORIA 15'S ROMP TO DAY ONE WIN

Astoria batted around in the fifth inning, scoring six runs to end their opening pool game against The Dalles with a 13-0 victory.

Joe Strickland went 4-for-4 at the plate with two doubles, three runs batted in and three scored to lead Astoria's 12-hit attack at the plate.

Daniel Mathre tossed four innings of shutout ball, allowing five hits with three strikeouts and no walks. Troy Sarpola pitched a scoreless fifth inning, allowing one base on balls.

Astoria faces Snake River Valley Nationals tonight at 7:00 p.m. on day two of pool play at the North Oregon State Tournament in La Grande.
