DISASTROUS D LEADS PENDLETON TO FINALS

Snake River Valley Nationals' cinderella run to the state final four came crashing down Monday morning in a 14-2, 5-inning loss to Pendleton.

Pendleton advanced to the championship game Monday night against the winner of Tri-County and Astoria.

All fourteen Pendleton runs were unearned, courtesy of eight SRV errors.

Most of the damage came in two bad innings. Pendleton loaded the bases with nobody out in the first inning after a leadoff walk to Levin Fox and consecutive errors by third baseman Marcus Marines. Fox charged home on a sacrifice fly to left field by Josh Ernst and Torin Garza followed with a base hit to right field to score Jake Talbot. After Garza advanced to second on a wild throw home, Bryant Tarter followed with a fly ball down the left field line that glanced off the glove of Alex Todd for the fourth error of the inning. Garza scored on the play and Tarter followed on a base hit by Dannon Baker.

SRV scored its only run of the game in the first inning, when catcher Matt Anthony led off with a base hit, stole second, advanced to third on a Nico Martinez bunt and scored on a wild pitch by Pendleton pitcher Kyle Mecham. Mecham did not allow another hit over his three inning stint.

Another muffed ball in right field in the third inning led to Pendleton's fifth run of the game, with Garza scoring on an infield hit by Mecham after going all the way to third base on what should have been a single.

Pendleton put the game away with eight runs in the fourth inning, capped by the tournament's first home run, a grand slam by number nine hitter Travis Jones down the line in left. Jones was named Pendleton's most valuable player, going 1-for-2 with two runs scored. Torin Garza finished the game 3-for-3 with two RBI's and three runs scored.

Snake River Valley will play the loser of the Astoria-Tri-County game at 4:00 p.m. for third and fourth place.
