WILDCATS SWEEP JAVELINAS

Matt Webb went 3-for-4 and knocked in the go-ahead run in the fifth inning with a double as the Seaside Wildcats defeated the Pacific Javelinas 6-3 at Broadway Field yesterday. The win followed a 13-2, 7-inning victory the night before.

Reliever Craig Neu got the start and pitched into the sixth inning, leaving with the bases loaded and two outs. With Seaside leading 4-3 and the tying run on third base, reliever A.J. Ornelas came on to retire Myles Rook on a groundout to third base. Aaron Nelson scooped the low throw at first base to potentially save two runs.

Ornelas allowed just one hit the rest of the way as the Wildcats evened their Pacific International League record at 13-13 and improved to 24-19 overall.

Seaside grabbed the early lead with four consecutive hits in teh second inning off Javelinas lefthander Addam Tate. After a bloop single by Webb, Mike Rector drove a 1-0 pitch into the gap in right center field for an RBI double. Robert Hitchens followed with another blooper and Adam White plated Rector with a base hit to make it 2-0 Seaside.

The Javelinas evened the score in the fourth inning on a 2-run home run by cleanup hitter Joel Johnson, his second in as many days.

Back-to-back doubles by Robert Lloyd and Webb in the fifth inning gave the lead back to Seaside. Webb later scored on a Hitchens groundout to make it 4-2 Wildcats.

Neu threw just 63 pitches through five innings but ran into trouble with two outs in the sixth. A sinlge by Ryan Davis, followed by a walk and back-to-back base hits by Marcos Quintero and Mike McNally spelled the end of Neu's outing. But Ornelas put out the fire and the Wildcats scored two insurance runs in the eighth to secure the win.

Seaside native Matt Hendryx had his best offensive day of the season. Getting the start at catcher, Hendryx reached base four times, going 2-for-3 with two doubles and a run scored.

The Wildcats had six doubles in the game.

Seaside travels to Mount Vernon Thursday to face the Skagit Eagles in a doubleheader before closing out the regular season with games Saturday night and Sunday afternoon against the Southern Oregon Riverdogs.
