CROSS COUNTRY-S.W. WA 1A/B Meet at Montesano
The Ilwaco cross country team made its 2006 debut in a meet at Lake Sylvia, with strong individual performances at both the varsity and middle school level.
Senior Kelly Friese won the girls race, finishing with a time of 20:55, while Carl Jackson, the only returning varsity boy on Ilwaco's team, took second in the boys race in 17:47, 25 seconds behind winner Spencer Hunt and one second ahead of sophomore teammate Stephen Berglund.
The Fishermen did not have a complete boys or girls team and no team scores were reported.
Mitchel Mortenson of Ilwaco won the middle school boys race, completing the 1-1/2 mile course in 10:14.
Ilwaco's next meet is scheduled at Elma's Vance Creek County Park on Thursday.
