FOOTBALL FLASH-Friday

Scappoose defeated Seaside 27-10 in a game that didn't end, but rather suffocated under a blanket of yellow flags. Scappoose quarterback Justin Engstrom pulled off a rare feat, passing for 117 yards...on a single drive...and Scappoose didn't even score on that drive! Seaside had an assistant coach and a player ejected on the Indians' final touchdown drive, a drive that featured eight penalties-three on the Gulls for unsportsmanlike conduct between plays as they tried to call a time out. Wes Powers caught a 14-yard TD pass from Engstrom with 2:04 to go in the game, ending the endless drive and putting the score out of reach. Before the Gulls could receive the kickoff, another flag was thrown for illegal procedure on the kick. There were 25 penalties in the game. Engstrom was 14-for-17 for 158 yards in the second half, finishing with 220 yards passing and two touchdowns. Powers, who sat out the first half for disciplinary reasons, caught six passes for 98 yards and picked up a fumble by T.J. Crane and ran it 39 yards for another TD.

Warrenton's Michael O'Casey rushed for 123 yards and a touchdown and caught an Eric Gantenbein touchdown pass as the Warriors picked up a critical 28-22 victory over Vernonia.

Knappa lost six fumbles and gave up 551 yards of total offense in a 51-8 loss to Nestucca.

Castle Rock spoiled homecoming night with a 47-20 victory over Ilwaco.

Astoria ran its unbeaten streak to 11 games with a 3-0 boys soccer win over Yamhill-Carlton.

More details on the above games and the results of Naselle's Saturday night game at Tacoma Baptist coming later this weekend on the Last Dam Blog!
