VOLLEYBALL ROUNDUP-Thursday

Rochester def. Ilwaco 25-12, 25-7, 25-10...Unstable Ilwaco continues to have trouble keeping a consistent six players on the floor. "Kate Denton stepped up and set for us some in the varsity match tonight," said head coach Candy Johnson. "She's another freshman, so there's a future there if I can get the freshmen all together."
Warrenton def. Rainier 25-22, 26-24, 14-25, 25-11...The Warriors put up a big block to get an important Lewis & Clark League victory over the Columbians. Amber Hackwith, Lesleyanne Hayward and Emily Ogren combined for 25 blocks and Ashley Poole contributed six kills as the Warriors improved to 7-2 in league and 9-2 overall. Hayward added four kills and was a perfect 18-for-18 serving, while Hackwith, who had ten blocks and four kills, served nine points in game four to provide Warrenton with a big early lead on the way to the match-clinching win. Warrenton has a bye early next week before facing Vernonia on Thursday.
Knappa def. Gaston 25-21, 19-25, 17-25, 25-17, 15-11...The Loggers picked up their third Northwest League win, coming back to defeat the Greyhounds on the road.
Naselle def. N.W. Christian 25-14, 25-15, 25-19...The Comets earned a big league win, sweeping a tough, defensive Navigators squad in Lacey. Jamie Bighill had 45 assists and Sylvia Herrold slammed a team-high 10 kills. The Comets, now 3-0 in Pacific B League 9-1 overall, step up their level of competition in a tournament at R.A. Long High School in Longview this Saturday. Their next home match is Wednesday, Oct. 18 against Willapa Valley.
Jewell def. Country Christian 25-18, 25-13, 25-16...The Jays keep rolling through the Casco competition, remaining unbeaten with a 3-game sweep at Country Christian.
