FISH JUNIORS CRUISE PAST MILWAUKIE
Marcus Brown was a triple away from the cycle and Troy Sarpola pitched four scoreless innings after a shaky start to lead the Astoria Ford OJB team past Milwaukie 14-1 this afternoon at Aiken Field.
The two teams will meet one more time at 1:00 p.m. tomorrow (tentative, start times and games have changed without notice).
Sarpola faced seven batters in the first inning and allowed a run, but stranded three runners on base and held Milwaukie at bay the rest of the way for a complete game victory.
Milwaukie pitchers struggled to throw strikes in the first inning as two bases loaded walks and a hit batter forced in three Astoria runs in the frame.
Astoria opened up a 9-1 lead with a 6-run second inning, keyed by a 3-run home run by Brown and back-to-back doubles by Max Johnson and Dane Lund. Johnson led off the inning with a double over the head of right fielder A.J. Dickson, then came back around with an RBI single to plate Willie Einerson, who reached on a base hit.
Astoria added five more runs in the third on back-to-back RBI singles by Sarpola and Daniel Mathre and a dropped fly ball that cleared the bases.
Brown went 3-for-3 at the plate with a double, home run, two runs scored and four RBI's to lead the Astoria offensive attack. Mason Brause walked twice and was hit by a pitch, scoring all three times.
The Astoria Ford Legion Post 12 team will face Milwaukie's legion group at 4:00 p.m. (we think) and then will play McNary at 7:00 p.m.
McNary defeated Milwaukie 9-0 in Monday's nightcap.
