WARRIORS ROMP AT ILWACO
Buddy Davis went 5-for-5 with a double and five runs scored and Michael Moore improved to 4-0 for the summer with a 5-inning complete game as the Warrenton Warriors defeated Ilwaco 17-2 in a North Coast District make-up game at Rutherford Field.
Brandon Slaughter went 2-for-5 with a double and Kevin Moore went 2-for-3 as the Warriors outhit the Fishermen 12-4 in the game, which was shortened to five innings by the 10-run mercy rule.
"We hit them hard and often," said Warriors head coach Lennie Wolfe.
Moore struck out five and walked only one, allowing four hits to win his fourth decision.
The Fishermen bounced back to win the non-league second game 5-4, despite being outhit 11-to-4 by Warrenton.
"Frankly, we ran ourselves out of that game," said Wolfe. "We made a number of baserunning mistakes that cost us dearly."
Justin Short picked up the win on the mound. Dylan Glover, an Astoria native, caught game two after pitching three innings of relief in game one, hitting his second double of the day. Trevor Couch also doubled for the Fishermen.
Warrenton returns to the field today, hosting Seaside for a 4:00 p.m. doubleheader before travelling to Tillamook for two on Thursday.
