SEASIDE 13'S FALL, ASTORIA 15'S WIN LAUGHER

Southeast Portland, comprised of players from the Marshall, Franklin and Cleveland school districts, needed just five hits to rack up 14 runs in a 14-9 win over Seaside in Thursday's 13-year-old Babe Ruth District 1 opener.

Ten walks were costly for Seaside, which outhit S.E. Portland 7-to-5 in the loss.

S.E. Portland built a 5-0 lead early before Seaside rallied for four runs in the bottom of the second inning. The score held until S.E. Portland scored four runs in the fifth inning to go up 9-4, outscoring Seaside 5-4 over the final two innings.

Eddie Soller went 2-for-4 with a triple for Seaside, which plays the loser of Friday's S.E. Portland vs. Astoria matchup on Saturday morning at 9:00 a.m.

After playing against Keizer Sand & Gravel, a team comprised of several players from McNary High School's 6A playoff baseball team, the core group of Astoria's 15-year-old All-Star team was obviously not fazed by Tualatin Hills' 15-year-olds. Astoria led 15-0 after two innings and went on to rout the Beaverton-based group 27-1 in five innings.

Astoria gets the day off today, while Tualatin Hills' #2 team takes on S.E. Portland with the winner facing the Astoria 15's on Saturday.
