CROSS COUNTRY-Tillamook Invitational
On a 5-mile course starting on the sand at Camp Magruder, Grant High School's Nathan Knutson paced the field, finishing with a first place time of 16:27. Tillamook's boys team took first place among 2A-4A schools with 191, led by Miguel Velez' 17:40 finish. Knappa had a strong showing, finishing in 4th place with 379 points. Astoria, running without their full varsity team, scored 400 points to finish 5th among small schools. Team captain Skyler Butenshon finished in 18:48, good for 46th place. Forest Grove won the team title with 38 points.
In the girls' race, Sunset took first and Centennial had the top individual with Michelle Dettman recording a winning time of 19:13. Eva Miehe led the Astoria contingent with a personal record time of 23:26. The Fishermen girls finished last in team points. Knappa's Gretchen George finished in 22:16 to lead the 8th-place Loggers.
Astoria returns to action next Saturday at the Molalla Invitational. Knappa head to the O.E.S. Invitational on September 19th.
