GULLS AND INDIANS STAY TIED

Seaside and Scappoose played to a scoreless draw in a Cowapa League boys soccer match at Scappoose Wednesday.

The Gulls picked up their second shutout in a row as goalkeeper John Morgan recorded five saves and helped Seaside defend six Scappoose corner kicks.

"It was a battle of the sweepers," said Seaside head coach John Broderick. "Justin Krieger did a nice job of extinguishing their long ball attack over the top by and large. He ran most of those down and turned them back upfield.

"They have a nice sweeper themselves and turned away most of our attacks. We didn't threaten too many times ourselves. Three or four attacks and nothing too threatening I'm afraid."

The Gulls had just one corner kick in the match, moving their league record to 2-3-2, still tied with Scappoose for second place. The teams will meet one more time this season. Scappoose currently has a tiebreaker edge by virtue of an earlier win over the Gulls.

"We're pretty happy to have stopped the bleeding," said Broderick. "We're hoping to finish our season with a good defensive effort and surprise Astoria a couple of times along the way."

Seaside's next match is against the unbeaten Fishermen next Tuesday at 6:00 p.m.
