JEWELL BOYS NOTCH FIRST WIN
Facing a combined Warrenton JV and JV2 team, the Jewell Blue Jays recorded their first win of the season, defeating the Warriors 53-51 at Jewell Monday night.
In the first game of the doubleheader, Amanda DePonte led three Jewell players in double figures with 22 points as the Lady Jays defeated Warrenton JV 69-36. Brooklyn Campbell scored 11 points to lead the Warriors junior varsity.
Campbell, coming off a 34 point performance with the Warriors varsity Saturday night at Portland Adventist, will don the varsity uniform tonight as the Lady Warriors face first place Rainier at 6:00 p.m. The Warriors boys, a game ahead of Rainier in second place in the Lewis & Clark League, host the Columbians tonight following the girls game. Rainier won both previous meetings.
In other matchups of league leaders tonight, the Ilwaco girls, currently in second place in the S.W. Washington 1A Trico Division, host first place Kalama in the second game of a doubleheader at Aase Gymnasium. The Ilwaco boys play Kalama first tonight with the game broadcast live on SportsRadio 1230 ESPN beginning at 5:35 p.m. Blazers basketball follows at 7:00 p.m. as Portland hosts the Phoenix Suns.
Knappa's boys and girls teams are currently in second place in the Northwest League heading into tonight's matchup at first place Portland Christian.
Astoria and Yamhill-Carlton are tied atop the Cowapa League boys standings with 4-1 records. Scappoose, with two league losses, heads to the Brickhouse tonight to face the Fishermen. Hear the game live on KAST-AM 1370 beginning at 7:05 p.m.
