ASTORIA 14'S ELIMINATE SEASIDE AT DISTRICTS

John Fick and Jacob Davis combined on a 2-hitter and the Astoria 14-year-olds got improved defensive play to defeat Seaside 7-1 at Walker Stadium in Portland today.

Seaside is eliminated from the District 1 Babe Ruth Tournament as Astoria advances to play Chehalem Valley Sunday afternoon at 4:00 p.m.

Leadoff batter Alex Eterno went 2-for-3 with a triple and a run scored for Astoria, which never trailed.

Trygve Olsen singled and scored on an error in the second inning. Eterno led off the third with a triple, later scoring on a bases loaded hit-by-pitch to Olsen. Skylar Olson plated Dylan Glover with a sacrifice fly to center field to give Astoria a 3-0 lead.

Seaside's two hits came off the bat of leadoff batter Joel Slovak, who singled in the third inning and the seventh. Seaside loaded the bases with two outs in the final inning before Jacob Davis came out of the bullpen to end the game on a ground out.

Fick and Jesse Boord each had runs batted in for Astoria, which must win four straight games to get to state.
