MILWAUKIE TOPS GULLS, 2-0 AT TOURNAMENT

Accent Homes of Milwaukie won its second straight game at the Astoria Ford 4th of July Tournament, overcoming five errors for a 10-5, six-inning victory over Seaside in a game that was shortened due to a preset time limit.

Milwaukie will play McKay Tuesday afternoon at 2:00 p.m. on the final day of the round robin, 3-day tournament.

Milwaukie scored three runs in the first inning and added four more in the third to take a 7-1 lead. Catcher Nick Chambers figured into the scoring in both innings. Chambers' base hit in the first inning plated two runs, following an RBI single by Matt Bergio. In the third, Chambers doubled following a leadoff error that put Bergio on. Alex Walsh walked to load the bases before Daniel Brink delivered a 2-RBI single, scoring Bergio and Chambers. A wild pitch by losing pitcher Alec Carlson sent Walsh across home plate and Brink came home on the second Seaside error of the inning.

It was not a good night for the Gulls, who were held to just one hit through five innings by winning pitcher Nick Colaco and committed five errors in the field, while Carlson walked six batters in four and a third innings. But Seaside would rally in the sixth inning, knocking Colaco off the hill on back to back doubles by Carlson and Ross Knutsen. A dropped fly ball in right field allowed Knutsen to score and after loading the bases on a Jeremy Carow single and a walk to Mitch DeGandi, two more runs scored on an Ed Kauffunger fielders' choice and a sacrifice fly to left field by Ben Christianson. But time ran out on the Gulls when Will Beatty struck out to end the inning, just two minutes after 7:00 p.m.

The Gulls will play Astoria Ford at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday in the final game of the tournament.
