BOYS SOCCER-Cowapa League Results

Astoria 3, YAMHILL-CARLTON 0...The Fishermen scored all three of their goals in the first half in a season-opening win at Yamhill. Brendan Cope jumped on K.J. Speer's deflected shot in the second minute to score Astoria's first goal of the game. Kyle McMullen beat the keeper one-on-one to score unassisted in the 15th minute and Josimar Macareno capped the scoring in the 29th minute on a double-assist by Speer and John Heick.

"We did some things really well," said assistant coach Gordon Thomsen. "We were able to organize our defense a little bit. Offensively we did some things really well and when we shared the ball things looked really good."

The Fishermen compete in a jamboree at Catlin Gabel on Saturday.

Seaside 3, TILLAMOOK 1...For the second straight match, the Gulls (2-0, 1-0 Cowapa League) came from behind in the second half to win, scoring all three of their goals in the final 25 minutes to defeat Cowapa League upstart Tillamook.

"They are going to be a good addition to the league that's for sure," said Seagulls coach Jon Broderick. "We saw another good team."

The Cheesemakers scored in the 7th minute of play and held a 1-0 halftime lead against a perennial playoff team in the first varsity boys soccer game in school history.

Chis Senick was able to level the match for Seaside, taking an assist from Alec Carlson in the 55th minute.

Justin Krieger gave Seaside the lead with the first of his two goals on an assist by Leo Luna. Krieger scored again later courtesy of Anders Benson.

The Gulls take a week off before hosting Yamhill-Carlton next Thursday.
