BEAVERTON BLASTS 13B'S

Mike Richard went 4-for-5 with three doubles and four runs batted in as Beaverton advanced to the semifinals of the Babe Ruth District 1 Tournament with an 18-1, 5-inning victory over the Astoria 2 team at Walker Stadium in Portland Wednesday night.

Beaverton will play the winner of today's game between S.E. Portland and Astoria 1 on Friday at 4:00 p.m. for a berth in the championship game. S.E. Portland cruised past Grant 16-3 in the tournament opener yesterday afternoon.

Richard, Beaverton's starting pitcher, popped out in his first at bat against Astoria starter Alex Eterno, but hit 2-run doubles in the second and third innings as Beaverton stormed to a 15-0 lead. Richard got credit for the victory, allowing one run on three hits over three innings pitched with three strikeouts and two walks.

Astoria's lone run came in the third inning on an RBI single by Rain Goza, scoring Eterno, who had walked.

Mark Ulbricht went 2-for-2 for Astoria 2 as Beaverton outhit the home team 13-to-4.

Astoria 2 plays Grant in a loser out game Thursday night at 7:00 p.m.
