ASTORIA 13'S ADVANCE TO STATE

The Astoria 13-year-old Babe Ruth All-stars could not make it a 3-team sweep, but will advance to the state tournament as District 1 runner-up, following a 6-5, 8-inning loss to Beaverton in the championship game.

Beaverton got a 2-run single with two outs in the bottom of the seventh inning to send the game into extra innings, then loaded the bases on a walk and two hits before delivering the game-winning single in the bottom of the eighth.

Trygve Olsen took the loss in relief of Taylor Fox, who allowed two runs on five hits over the first five innings.

Jacob Davis went 2-for-4 with a pair of doubles and a run scored and Jesse Boord had two runs batted in for Astoria, which will open state tournament play in La Grande on Thursday, July 20th after opening ceremonies on the 19th.
