LOWER COLUMBIA 11'S COAST INTO SEMIS

The 11-year-old Cal Ripken All-stars defeated West Linn 12B (Holman) 21-6 to complete pool play an undefeated 3-0, then knocked off the Lower Columbia 12B team 13-1 in a 4-inning quarterfinal game to advance to the final four at the North Oregon State Tournament in Naselle.

Lower Columbia will likely face two West Linn teams in order to clinch the tournament championship. If they win out, they will gain entry into the 12A State Tournament at Dallas next weekend before heading to 11-year-old regionals in Eugene next month.

The 12B team lost a third straight close game in pool play, dropping a 9-8 decision to Sandy 12B. Their final game would not be close.

The 11's scored multiple runs in all four innings at bat, collecting 12 hits to just one for the 12B's. Ross Kukula went 2-for-3 with a 3-run triple in the second inning that gave the 11's a 7-0 lead at that point. In the third inning, Kyle Kelly doubled and scored on a throwing error and Josh Biel tripled later in the inning, scoring on the same play when the ball got loose on the infield.

Keelin Cuifici went 2-for-2 with a pair of doubles and two runs scored. Kyle LuCore reached base all three times at bat, scoring three runs while going 2-for-2 with an RBI.

The 12-year-olds scored their only run in the fourth inning when Roland Johansen walked, later scoring on an fielders choice. Bradley Aho had the only hit.

Semifinals will be at 11:30 a.m. today with the consolation and championship games at 2:00 p.m. at Lions Club field and the Naselle High School softball field.
