ASTORIA 14'S STAY ALIVE

Astoria's 14-year-old Babe Ruth All-star team reached the championship round of the District 1 tournament with a 13-2, five-inning victory over S.E. Portland Friday afternoon.

The win was Astoria's second 10-run victory over S.E. Portland, setting up a rematch with Beaverton in the three-team tourney. Beaverton defeated Astoria 10-2 on Thursday and Astoria must beat Beaverton twice in order to claim the district championship.

Ian Dueber struggled a bit with control, but managed to avoid the S.E. Portland bats, allowing just one hit over five innings pitched. Dane Lund went 2-for-2 at the plate as Astoria recorded nine hits in the game.

Tonight's championship game is at 7:00 p.m. at Walker Stadium, located in Lents Park at 92nd and Holgate in Portland. A win for Astoria would set up a second game, to be played Sunday afternoon at 4:00 p.m.

The North Oregon 14-year-old State Tournament is in Astoria this year and with it comes an automatic tournament berth for the home team, taking some of the pressure off Astoria. The tournament is scheduled to begin Thursday, July 20.
