L.C. 12'S 2-2 IN FINAL TUNEUP TOURNEY
Mason County won a pitchers' duel 2-1 to eliminate Lower Columbia 12A in the quarterfinals of a 7-team invitational tournament at Hoquiam Sunday.
Lower Columbia's next scheduled action is at Dallas for the North Oregon State Tournament starting Friday.
The tournament began with a 4-2 loss to Sandy in which offense was in short supply. Conor Harber and Breton Medina each had hits and Dalton Kelly had one RBI, but other than that the bats were silent against a team L.C. will need to beat next weekend.
The local 12's responded with a pair of blowout victories, beating Western Select 12-0 and Hoquiam B 12-2. Kelly homered in both games, going 4-for-6 overall with seven RBI's.
Against Mason County in the knockout round, Kelly got the start on the mound and surrendered three hits, including a home run. Harber finished strong on the hill, but again Lower Columbia was unable to generate offense. With runners at first and third and two outs in the sixth, trailing 2-1, Harber hit a sharp liner to left field that was caught for the final out of the game.
The state tournament will be at La Creole Complex in Dallas from Friday, July 14 through Sunday, July 16, featuring teams from Dallas, Central (Monmouth-Independence), Sandy, West Linn and Seaside all vying for a berth in the Pacific N.W. Regional Tournament.
