TOUTLE TOPS TENINO IN BATTLE ON THE BEACH
Toutle Lake, led by Most Valuable Player Brandon Bartlett, defeated Tenino 41-32 to win the Battle On The Beach basketball tournament at Ilwaco's Aase Gymnasium Sunday.
The Ducks took first in a pool including Ilwaco, Winlock and Hoquiam, hammering the Fishermen 74-27 on Saturday.
Ilwaco lost to Winlock and Hoquiam on Friday and fell to Warrenton 38-34 on Sunday. Warrenton had struggled to score earlier in the weekend, scoring just 20 points total in losses to Washougal and and Napavine. Toledo defeated Warrenton 53-23 on Saturday.
Seaside started the tournament, but did not finish Sunday due to a baseball conflict. Knappa played well, opening with a 54-31 win over Onalaska and following with a 57-34 victory over North Beach Friday night. The Loggers fell to eventual runner-up Tenino 50-38 on Saturday before closing the tournament with a 52-41 victory over Montesano.
Sixteen teams in all competed at this year's Battle on the Beach, which was played exclusively at Ilwaco High School due to renovations at Hilltop Elementary this summer.
